I have called my project for the Riva 1920 initiative Laguna. The idea of this initiative is to preserve the poetry of these “briccole” repositioning them in their natural environment.
My project is dedicated to Venice and to its lagoon; it seeks to encapsulate this silent presence in glass, celebrating its ephemeral yet ancient reality.

The MOLLETTA bench, in playing on the typical out-of-scale quality of Pop art, gives a hyper-natural interpretation to the cedar wood.
 
The object thus acquires a double life: the first is that of a roomy seat designed for large interiors and for the outdoors.
 
The second is that of a powerful sculptural element, able to define the identity of the surrounding space. The gigantic peg also pays homage however, to the simple and anonymous design that has always been silently present with us in our daily home life.
The aesthetic strength of MOLLETTA owes a lot to the skilful workmanship of the solid wood that is part of Riva 1920's tradition. In this seat in particular, the workmanship of the oblique cuts brings out the grain and the tones of the natural cedar, creating an almost virtual texture that covers the entire object.

Description: This armchair is made of scented cedar wood and it is carved out of a single block of wood with a 75 cm-wide diameter or larger. It is hand-finished. Its sinuous shape, characterized by the peculiar concentric circles of the cedar trunk section, makes out of Maui a true work of art without equals. It is a furnishing element ideal for both indoor or outdoor spaces (preferably covered). It should not be exposed to direct sunlight, or contact with water and ice. Any cracks or splits, before or after sale, are absolutely normal, being typical features of solid wood that, as it ages and becomes seasoned, moves according to the different conditions of the setting and humidity of the air.

Container unit realized through traditional methods of drawers’ manufacture, using dovetail joints, here modernized with the smoothmoving efficiency of metal runners.
Each drawer is made individually, assembled and tested by our expert cabinet makers.
The grip for opening the drawers is created by a lip cut into the front of the drawer.
The outer structure has been made of 5cm-thick multilayer and veneered.
The base has been consciously designed to be smaller at the front and sides to make the units lighter.

The Soft Wood collection, designed by Carlo Colombo, presents a sofa and an armchair whose frames are entirely made of multiplex and are characterized by exposed vertical grooves.
