Kitchen Styles - Countertops - Concrete Frequently Asked Questions

Where can concrete be used?

Anywhere other materials might be used.  Kitchen countertops floors, walls, hot tubs, fireplace fronts, shower stalls, vanity tops, tables, sinks and patios.

What does concrete weigh?

Concrete kitchen countertops at a thickness of 1 1/2" weigh 18.75 lbs. per sf. Typical kitchen cabinets will support the weight of concrete countertops.  Some older cabinets may need additional support.

Does concrete stain?

Like marble and stones it can stain. We seal each piece to make it resistant to the elements, including food stains.  It is recommended that spills be cleaned up right away. Stains that occur over time enhance the patina of these counters.

Can concrete crack?

Concrete can develop cracks, much in the same fashion as marble, granite, or stone.  These cracks, if they do appear, enhance the character of each kitchen countertop.  Our tops are reinforced with our mixture to lessen the likelihood of cracks.

Is concrete durable?

Yes.  Concrete is very durable and will, with proper care, last a lifetime.

How do I maintain concrete counters?

Spills should be cleaned up right away. You should not allow cutting directly on the surface as it may open the sealer and let stains in. Concrete kitchen counters should be cleaned with a mild non-abrasive detergent.  Periodic waxing is highly recommended to help protect the sealer. After a period of time if the sealer appears to be wearing it should be resealed.

Why choose concrete countertops?

Concrete has the warmth of stone yet, in appearance, can be as unique and as individual as the owner.  Endless custom colors and designs give limitless options to choose from.
